From reviewing all of the wonderful responses that I have recieved to my art so far, I decided that I needed to spread my art to a wider audience and community.
I had a load of my packs ready to go and decided that I would like to put them at a place where they could be accessed relatively easily, and that people could decided if they wanted to participate freely and openly.
So with this is mind, I enquired to see if it would be possible to leave some of my packs in the staffroom at uni. After speaking to Sarah, she said that it shouldn't be a problem so I got onto it. I created an email that was sent to all members of staff informing them of my project. Here's what it said:
"Dear all,
My art project this year is focussed around the concept of participatory art, and getting a wide range of people actively involved within this process.
You may or may not have seen some a disposable camera around campus tied to a bench inviting you to take pictures, and me and my friend around campus with her large ball made out of bubblewrap. It is all in the name of art.
The reason I am emailing, is to ask you if you would like to participate within my art. I have consulted with my art lecturer Sarah to see if it would be possible to leave a pack of materials within the staff room located in the Chapel block.
The task that I would like to invite you to participate with is creating a response to the word 'Identity' using any of the materials that I have provided within the packs, in addition to any of your choosing. There are a selection of packs to choose from which contain a variety of materials.
I would really value your input and participation within this art project. If I could please ask you to leave your responses either in the staff room, or drop them into a member of staff within the art department, I would be most appreciative.
I would also like to invite you to come and see the end of year art shows which celebrate the hard work of my fellow peers will take place in both the Chapel and in the art studio towards the end of the semester.
Thank you. I really do appreciate your participation and input with my project.
I look forward to seeing your wonderful responses.
Yours faithfully,
Jaz Hayer."
After sending this email out, I went over with Sarah to leave my packs in the staffroom. I decided to leave them by the staff pidgeon holes so that they would be in quite a prominent place where they would be noticed. Hopefully they will be recieved well and encourage participation. Sarah has very kindly agreed to go and check my packs to see if many have been taken/returned on a daily basis.
I am also in the process of working out how I could open this up to students at uni as well. Maybe by leaving them scattered around campus or maybe even in a 'studenty' area like The Hub/Students Union?

My packs in a box with a copy of my email in the staffroom
Lets see what happens...exciting times!
